Barclays bank gives mobile security software to customers
Barclays is giving its online banking customers free software to protect against mobile and PC security threats. It says it's the first UK bank to offer mobile security software. Barclays mobile banking is available online at http://barclays.mobi/ [Source: Mobile News]

150 million bank customers will be mobile by 2011
Juniper Research says there'll be over 150 million people using mobile phones as an additional tool for banking transactions by 2011. It says this figure just refers to existing customers of conventional banks rather than 'transformational banking', which offers mobile banking to customers that aren't within reach of branch-based banking. Juniper Research has previously forecast over 800 million people worldwide to be using some form of mobile banking by 2011. [Press release]

Mobile users want more services... but don't know what they've got
Mobile service developer BuzzCity has published the results of a survey that shows mobile customers are eager to access new services but aren't aware that particular services exist. For example, 51% of respondents said they would use their mobile phones for financial services if such services were available in their country. [Press release]

We'll spend $300 billion on our mobiles by 2013

79% of UK users don't want mobile banking or shopping
A new study by Unisys says most consumers aren't ready to use their mobile phone for shopping and banking. 71% of all consumers surveyed in 14 countries (and 79% in the UK) will not consider using a mobile device to bank or shop online. Just 9% currently use their mobiles for transactions that involve credit card payments, money transfers or deposits. [Source: 160characters.org]

Mobile finance will be driven by consumers without bank accounts
41.5 billion mobile financial service transactions will be made worldwide by the end of 2011, according to figures from Juniper Research. This compares with just 2.7 billion in 2007. It says the market will be driven by two sectors: users in developing countries who do not currently hold bank accounts or credit cards, and users in developed countries who are too young to access conventional financial services. Over 800 million consumers to use mobile banking by 2011
More figures from Juniper Research. These forecast that 816 million customers will be using mobile banking services by 2011 - as long as the industry sorts out financial regulation, transaction costs, revenue share and customer support. The annual number of global mobile banking transactions is expected to rise from 2.7 billion in 2007 to 37 billion by 2011, led by the China/Far East region followed by Western Europe and the Indian sub-continent. More customers using mobile shopping and mobile banking
A study from Harris Interactive says that mobile phone users are increasingly comfortable making banking and purchase transactions while on-the-go. 16% of mobile phone customers in the USA already use mobile banking services, with over half of these people using the services at least once a week. When it comes to shopping, about 25% of people with mobile access to the internet use their devices to buy goods and services online via a credit card. The biggest concern was security, with 66% being apprehensive about sending financial information online.

Mobile phones to be used for £295 billion of financial transactions by 2011
Mobile phone customers are expected to conduct over $587 billion (£295 billion) of financial transactions over the phone by 2011, according to a new report from Juniper Research. It says around 612 million customers worldwide will be using their phones to handle their money in 2011 with most using their phones for mobile banking, although 204 million users are expected to spend $22 billion in mobile payments.
