Barclays bank gives mobile security software to customers

BlackBerry warns of PDF security risk

BlackBerry's parent company Research in Motion has warned corporate customers about a security flaw. Hackers using a malicious PDF document sent to a BlackBerry could take control of a computer on the company network. [Security release]

Mobile virus attacks increasing

Mobile security company AdaptiveMobile says the number of mobile virus attacks is increasing . In particular, they mention the CommWarrior (Nokia Series 60) and Beselo (Symbian) viruses as requiring particular caution. One network that uses AdaptiveMobile has seen a rise in virus attacks from just 0.5% of all messages to 6% over the last 12 months. The network says it now deals with 100,000 virus incidences a day, up from 70,000 in one year. [Press release]

Mobile users not taking security precautions

Online security company F-Secure says over three-quarters of mobile phone users are aware that their mobile devices can be infected by viruses via Bluetooth but don't have any security software. Researchers contacted 1,169 mobile users in January across the USA, Canada, UK, France and Germany. On average, 28% of respondents said they used their mobile device to access the internet, with 86% saying they had no mobile security. The UK was above average for internet access, with 47% of users going online with their mobile device. When it came to security, only 21% of users regarded Bluetooth connections safe and 15% said WiFi connections were safe.

First iPhone virus discovered

Anti-virus company F-Secure reports that a malicious software package has been created for unlocked iPhones. It's been described as a "low-risk threat" created by an "11-year-old kid playing with XML files".
