Mobile betting to beat recession

Bets placed via mobile phones will double in 2009 to hit $3.6 billion (£2.4 billion), according to Juniper Research. Three-quarters of the money will come from traditional bookmaker-style betting, with with casino-type gambling the second-largest sector. 30% of all bets worldwide will come from the UK, although this will drop to 8% by 2013 as usage in other countries increases. Agree that an increase in betting will happen - it usually does in a recession.

But whether mobile phone companies will benefit, I'm not sure I'll be betfair trading on that!
