Samsung reorganises
Samsung Electronics has reorganised its four businesses into two operating divisions. Its telecom and media businesses are being combined into a single unit, as are its memory chip and display businesses. Choi Gee-sung, who currently heads the company's global telecommunications business, will oversee the new media and telecom division. [Sources: Guardian.co.uk; BusinessWeek.com]

Blyk raises money and cuts costs
Ad-funded virtual mobile network Blyk raises says it's raised an additional €40 million to support its operations, although it's also cutting costs and is streamlining the organisation. Blyk launched in the UK in September 2007, attracting over 200,000 members in its first year. It's currently working with 180 brands and plans to have and 200 brands using the service by the end of 2008. [Press release]

Orange announces new UK plans
Orange CEO Tom Alexander has announced a number of changes to the way the company works in the UK. He said it would improve quality for customers, it would expand Orange sales channels, it would expand its 3G HSDPA network, and it would offer new services. There'll be new products including Orange-branded laptops, there'll be more focus on offering customer service using UK call centres, and there'll be more Orange shops. It's also changing its management structure, which could see the loss of around 450 jobs. The company is dropping its "the future's bright, the future's Orange" advertising tagline. Motorola may separate its mobile phone business
Motorola has said it is "exploring the structural and strategic realignment of its businesses to better equip its Mobile Devices business to recapture global market leadership and to enhance shareholder value", which may involve separating its mobile division from the rest of the company. Greg Brown, Motorola's CEO, said “We are exploring ways in which our Mobile Devices Business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realize the value of this great franchise.” [Press release]
