Ericsson and STMicroelectronics to merge

STMicroelectronics and Ericsson are going to merge Ericsson Mobile Platforms and ST-NXP Wireless into a 50/50 joint venture, producing chips and other mobile components for a number of mobile manufacturers including Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Sharp. [Press release]

Hydrogen power cell for mobile phones

French researchers have created a hydrogen fuel cell that can be used to recharge mobile phones, reducing our reliance on electrocity for recharging. The fuel cell is being developed by STMicroelectronics and Bic. It's the size of a small cigarette lighter and could be on sale in early 2010.
